The Beautiful Game Project:
Wiltshire County FA Award 'Best Inclusive Project' 2017

"It's an absolute disgrace that kids are being priced out of football in this country. It's meant to be our national sport. It's meant to be all-inclusive. At the moment it's not. I would have been priced out of football just now."

In July 2016, Salisbury Rovers Football Club was awarded a Wiltshire Community Foundation Grant worth £10,000 over two years to establish a unique community football project in two areas of Salisbury - Bemerton Heath and the Friary. This is called the ‘The Beautiful Game Project’.

This Project lies at the very heart of our club. It allows children resident in those areas (between the ages of 5 and 14) to have access to FREE football sessions with FA qualified coaches as well as activities and trips. It will also offer access to coaching courses for young coaches and arrange opportunities for children in those areas to attend events in the City centre and beyond.

Trips and social activities will be open to kids who regularly attend the Project.

A VIDEO of the project made by Wiltshire FA can be found at this link.

Salisbury Rovers FC’s philosophy is that encouraging all kids play football is not just the ‘nice’ thing to do, but it is also best for kids, for football and for society. No child should be 'priced out' of our national game.

Currently, the project runs at the following times:

  • 5pm to 6pm on Mondays at Sarum Academy
  • 6pm to 7pm on Fridays at the ball court on the Friary.

Examples of trips so far:
  • a FC Salisbury Utd futsal game
  • Salisbury FC's play-off game
  • a trip to Swindon FC
  • a trip to England u21 qualifier
  • indoor football
  • summer kickabouts
  • Nando's
  • Farnborough futsal tournaments
  • FA People's Cup
  • Goalkeeping sessions

The Beautiful Game Project was awarded 'Best Inclusive Project' at the Wiltshire County FA Awards in 2017.

We always welcome volunteers and can offer FA DBs checks and opportunities to coach.
