Grassroots Festival of Ideas, St George's Park, 11 August 2018
What's the Festival about?
In March 2018, a group of grassroots volunteers, coaches and activists, formed an organising group to discuss ways in which we could meet and share ideas about the development of our precious grassroots game.
From Salisbury to Scotland, those on the organising committee have one thing in common: a wish to create the best possible environment for children to play in, encouraging a life-long love of the game and fostering higher rates of retention.
Together, we have decided to hold a 'Grassroots Festival of Ideas' at England's national football headquarters - St George's Park.
What will be discussed?
Anything and everything!
The day will be very informal and participant led, with lots of opportunities to meet and share ideas and identify practical, concrete ways of working together to create change where it is needed.
Topics for discussion suggested so far include:
CREATING THE ENVIRONMENT How to improve match day experience How to overcome those resistant to change Who’s game is it? Adults or kids?
RUNNING A JUNIOR CLUB Providing facilities Keeping costs down Where can we all save Knowing where to look for financial support How to get more kids How to make the best use of your money How to involve adults How to involve kids off the pitch
COACHING SSGs 1v1 2v2 3v3 Futsal Panna Footvolley Taking the team through 5v5 7v7 9v9 to 11v11
DEVELOPMENT FOOTBALL League football Alternatives to Sept-May Three part season Summer Football Futsal
Topics can be added to this list as we won't have speakers -the idea is to have facilitators lead sessions so that people have lots of time to exchange ideas.
So, for example, a topic on the list might be introduced and then people will break out into smaller groups to discuss anything related to it, coming back into the main group to pool ideas at the end of the topic session.
There will be a board in the centre for ideas throughout the day.
It is hoped we can be as hands on as possible, actively engaging attendees in discussion.
